New Series, New Blog...

Hello

It's that time again. For a few brief days, I am not writing. The final instalment of my trilogy is with my editor; the outline for my next one has been approved. As I sit at my desk, I have no To Do List peppered with tasks labelled 'Urgent'; I have no working document; no imminent deadline. Instead, my mind is happily mulling my new series, with its still-to-be-pinned-down themes, disjointed ideas, and characters yet to utter their first words. I know who they are; I know where they are. At the moment, though, they don't exist anywhere apart from inside my head and on the pages of their respective synopses. It is a situation I find exciting and terrifying in equal measure.

What I can tell you so far is that this new trilogy will be set in North Devon during the second world war - from late 1939 until VE day in 1945. Each story will be told from the point of view of one of three protagonists, all of them women in their early forties, and all long-time friends from their years together at school. Each woman has her own reason for ending up in North Devon. Each of them is searching for something; all will find courage, strength and contentment – albeit perhaps not of the sort they might have expected.

I have a lot of work ahead of me, especially since, for this series of books, I'm teaming up with a new editor and a new publishing house. So, given everything that's happening on the writing front, this felt like a good time to start communicating more with my readers and talking more about my writing. Hence this new blog of occasional articles.

I'm looking forward to knuckling down and getting stuck in. For me, September, much as it always felt when I was at school, really is going to be an exciting new beginning.

Rosie
